September News, Part Three
This is what things looked like on Sunday night with no electricity. At the time I was a little frustrated because friends in town reported that their power was still on, and, in fact, didn’t go out at all. In the end, though, I feel lucky to have had my electricity restored within 24 hours, since so many people are without power still.
So, I drank about a gallon of Gatorade this weekend, and ate cold Beefaroni from a can while listening to weather reports on a battery powered radio. It’s sad, but I discovered just how useless everything I have is without electricity. I stared at my 2,000 CDs and thought about how, without power, they are just pieces of plastic.
It rained non-stop from Saturday night until Tuesday morning. Behind my apartment used to be some woods and a pasture. Now there’s a lake. Roads near my place are closed, and trees and telephone poles are broken all around.
I’m glad it’s over.
