Cinna-bon? Non.

Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch CerealI have eaten at Cinnabon no more than three times in my life, most recently at the restaurant-deficient Salt Lake City International Airport.  The most accurate way I could describe their popular product would be thus: A soft, sweet, gooey treat made from the warm hearts of angels.  They truly are delicious.   But, as I ate one for breakfast that March morning in Utah, my body sensed that they must be profoundly unhealthy.  Even my stomach, accustomed to a diet consisting primarily of high-fructose corn syrup, found the Cinnabon a bit too much of a good thing.

As an avowed cereal lover, you can imagine my pleasure at finding the new Cinnabon Cinnamon Crunch cereal at Publix recently.  After several test bowls, however, I must register disappointment.  It is surprisingly un-sweet.  The taste, it seems, comes from something called “turbinado”, as well as assorted fruit juices and real cinnamon.  It looks like miniature Cinnabons, but is so crunchy–even after an extended milk bath–that it would be impossible to confuse the two.  If you were hoping for a  miniature version of the delicious, life-shortening cinnamon roll, look elsewhere.

  1. You have not reached the level of sugar enlightenment for your body to handle the Cinna-bon. Turbinado, btw is sugar.
