I am glad to read that New Orleans appears to have survived Hurricane Gustav largely intact today.  I saw video this morning of water lapping the top of a levee, and it was a bit disconcerting.  But the path of the storm to the west helped, as did some reinforcement of existing dikes, and they seem to have been spared a repitition of Katrina-style horror.

I almost pity the McCain campaign and the Republican conventioneers for their bad luck.  Almost.
