About Me

I have a girl’s name, and I don’t eat vegetables. That’s all most people notice about me. It’s okay, though, because I never get sick. I have not thrown up in over sixteen years. I apparently look angry even when I am not.

I am extremely lucky and proud to work in public radio.  In addition to directing a weekly program about antiques and collectibles, I also screen calls for another about books, and host my own talk show about animals and veterinary medicine, write and voice countless public service announcements, and produce a series of classical music concert broadcasts.  I especially enjoy the latter because I am obsessed with classical music and opera, and collect recordings of that music fervently. I am absurdly fanatical about buying products made in USA. I am a published photographer and writer, and I have  degrees in British literature and American history.

I am also an unrepentant nostalgist, lover of cardinals, restorer of houses, needer of glasses, eater of cookies, reader of novels, and watcher of documentaries. I enjoy learning, but do not enjoy writing papers about what I have learned. I found graduate school almost overwhelming.

I live in Gainesville, Florida, with my smart and crafty wife who makes me laugh constantly, and my cat who makes my life happier in more ways than I can count.

About This Website

I don’t consider this a blog as much as a diary. I have kept a diary since 1997, when I realized I was forgetting far too much of my life. The posts on this webpage serve the primary purpose of allowing me to describe my life, even its most mundane details. If others find something to enjoy here, so much the better, but that is not my stated objective. If I sometimes seem to be writing to readers other than myself, consider that I have never been a stream-of-consciousness thinker. I categorically reject that style. I write the way I think, though I confess I cannot always speak the way I write. My posts are composed as though I will be reading them ages hence, which might explain, to some degree, why it appears I am speaking to a wider audience.

Follow the links at the side of each page to explore the site. If you are not my confirmed enemy and would like a password to read the protected posts, send me an email via the Contact page. If you cannot solve the security question on your own, use Google. I welcome readers’ comments on my posts, though understand that I make no pretense of respecting freedom of expression on this page. If you write something abusive or offensive you will probably never see it, or it will be swiftly deleted. On the other hand, if you disagree with my many strong opinions, and do so in a civil way, I will respect your honesty, and you likely will see your comment appear. Please note, too, that comments from first-time posters do not appear immediately.
